To become an ocean lifeguard at the beach you have to be good swimmer eligible to swim 500 meters in less than 10 minutes and able to act quickly.

After arrival to North Myrtle Beach, you will participate in the 7-day Lifeguard Academy. Returning guards should attend  2- day recertification.

 

Start date:   June 5th, 2021 (or May 8th for first LG Academy)

End date:     September 5th, 2021

 

All applicants must provide the employer Criminal Background Check as The Beach Patrol is a Division of City Municipality.

First-timer: $14.00 / hour with bonus $800

Guards hours are actually 9 to 6 and on the stand at 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.

 

Overtime: no overtime wage, lifeguards are working 50-60 hours per week

Pay frequency: bi-weekly

# of days per week: 5-7, # of hours per week: 40-60 in average

 

# of hours per week in 2019: 60

 

$400.00 bonus for all returning guards, $600.00 bonus for all rookie guards

Housing: Not provided

Students can find 3-months rentals in hotels, motels in the area. The expected cost of housing $300 – 500 / month + security deposit. Utilities are usually included.

Bike costs approx $100, possible to buy cheap used bikes in good condition in the Student Centre close to North Myrtle Beach bus station. Commuting time depends on the location of your housing.
